Shipped mummy lost forever – La mummia che viaggiò sul Titanic
The mummy who died twice?

Here follows a story that shows how urban legends very often have a link to reality. The research for this mummy was inspired to me by the movie “A Night at The Museum” (2006)  the museum being the The American Museum Of Natural History in New York. Among the different exhibits Larry Daley (the protagonist) meets there is the Ahkmenrah’s sarcophagus and an Egyptian tablet. Of course, it is a movie, so if you visit the real museum don’t look for the Ahkmenrah’s sarcophagus or the Egyptian tablet because you won’t find it. Nevertheless I  wondered why the author of this movie should have invented a mummy if our life is full of fascinating mummies coming from several discoveries. Well, I found the answer. Actually “Ahkmenrah” exists. The movie refers to a legend born around the Princess of Amen-Ra lived in 1050 B.C. Her wooden coffin lid is the most popular exhibit in the British Museum. There is no mummy inside but an urban legend says that the mummy traveled with the Titanic (the popular ship sunk in 1912) and that its curse was the cause of the tragedy.

This mummy probably traveled with the Titanic and it is supposed to lie at present in the bottom of the Atlantic ocean together with the people and remains of the gorgeous transatlantic. Maybe this mummy died twice…

Vi posto una storia che in qualche dimostra che le leggende metropolitane spesso hanno un legame con la realtà. La ricerca di questa mummia mi è stata ispirata dalla visione del film "Una notte al museo" del 2006 (se non lo avete visto fatelo perchè è davvero divertente!). Il museo in questione è Il Museo di Storia Naturale di New York. Larrey Daley (il protagonista) e neo-guardiano del museo interagisce con i diversi ehibit del museo e fra questi vi è il sarcofago e la mummia Ahkmenrah, oltre che una enigmatica tavoletta egiziana. Se vi capita di visitare veramente questo museo non andate alla ricerca di Ahkmenrah né della tavoletta egiziana perchè non li troverete. E’ un film dopotutto. Io però mi sono domandata come mai l’autore di questo film avrebbe dovuto inventarsi una mummia di sana pianta se la nostra vita è piena di affascinanti mummie provenienti da diverse scoperte. La risposta è che in realtà quella mummia esiste! Il flm si riferisce a una leggenda nata intorno alla principessa egiziana Amen-ra vissuta nel 1050 a.C. Il suo sarcofago è l’exhibit più famoso del British Museum a Londra. Non c’è la mummia dentro quel sarcofago, ma una leggenda metropolitana sostiene che questa mummia viaggiò con il Titanic, il popolare transatlantico affondato nel 1912 e che la sua maledizione sia stata la causa del disastro.
Probabilmente questa mummia viaggiò davvero con il Titanic e si presuppone dunque che attualmente giaccia sul fondo dell’oceano Atlantico assieme a tutti i protagonisti di quella triste vicenda. Forse questa mummia morì due volte…
